Hello Angels,

"Once upon a time there were six beautiful girls and three handsome boys who went to the NASCAR driving academy, and they were each assigned very hazardous duties. But I took them away from all that and now they work for me. My name is Charlie."

Well, I’ve done it again. I’ve rescued another Angel from the hazardous duties of NASCAR and asked her to work for me.  Let me take this time to welcome Madison to the Charlie’s Angels’ Fantasy League. So, Madison, welcome.

This week’s racetrack is famous for the “Bump and Run.”  At Bristol Motor Speedway, passing another car can be very time consuming, so, what the driver of the car trying to pass will do is “bump” the rear bumper of the car ahead and make them loose traction. When this happens, the driver will then point his car’s nose underneath the car he’s trying to pass and “runs” up the inside lane and passes the car.  Normally when this happens, tempers flare and fights usually break out. But in tonight’s race, I didn’t see anyone’s temper really flare.

While there was little by way of tempers flaring, there were plenty of cautions to go around, including two multiple-car crashes.  But I would say mental errors caused the most havoc today.  For those of you who don’t remember, Jeff Gordon had a problem with the pits here because there are different rules when pitting under caution and when pitting under green-flag conditions. Today it was Mark Martin who used the yellow-flag rule and went all the way around the pits losing valuable track position and ultimately falling back two laps because of it. Then there was Rusty Wallace running out of gas. Another was Gordon after he got a lap back under the free-pass rule, had it immediately taken back because he failed to start at the end of the longest line of cars.  NASCAR panelized Gordon with a drive-thru pit-road penalty, where he fell from 11th to 16th place.

Not having a mental error was Dale Earnhardt Jr., who dominated the Sharpie 500 and won for the first time on the half-mile track in Bristol. Earnhardt also won the Busch series race Friday night and became the first driver ever sweep both races in the same weekend. Congratulations on all of you who picked Earnhardt for your team.

Ok, so how did we do this week, well, for you Sabrina, you’re never going to move up in the standings if you continue to only field three drivers on your team each week. Please come back and change your drivers.

Natalie, while you don’t have Earnhardt on your team, the same can be said about you. In your case, you fielded only four drivers.

Jill, unfortunately for you, you had all five drivers in the field tonight, but, that wasn’t necessarily a good thing for you. You earned the GOLDEN CABOOSE AWARD this week because Carl Everett got caught in someone else’s mess and crashed out of the race. He finished 33rd. Jeremy Mayfield and Kasey Kahne finished 22nd and 21st respectively. Gordon finished 14th, while your best driver, Jimmie Johnson, finished third. Your GCA average finish is 18.6.

Tiffany, Mears is your worst driver with his 30th place finish. He sustained some body damage during the early part of the race and had to go into the garage to get it fixed. Kevin Harvick had circulation problems and had to get out of the car after his left hand fell asleep. Kyle Petty climbed in and finished the race for Harvick in 24th. Finishing in 22nd place is Jeremy Mayfield who cut a right-rear tire.  Last week’s winner, Greg Biffle, finished 11th, while Earnhardt won the race.  Your average finish is 17.6.

Mr. X, your worst driver is also Mears and his 30th place finish. Kahne finished 21st, while Gordon and Mark Martin finished 14th and 13th respectively. Your top driver is Kurt Busch in eighth, relegating your average finish to 17.2.

Kelly, Harvick and Mayfield were your worst two drivers with their 24th and 22nd place finishes respectively. Brothers Bobby and Terry Labonte finished 16th and 15th respectively. Your top driver is also Busch and his eighth place finish. Your average finish is 17 even.

Dylan, Mears was your worst driver with his 30th place finish, while Harvick didn’t help with his 24th place finish. Martin finished 13th, while Dale Jarrett and Elliott Sader finished 10th and fifth respectively. Your average finish is 16 even.

Kris, Joe Nemachek had a decent car, but unfortunately got knocked out early in the race after he and Scott Wimmer got together. Nemachek finished 42nd. Kahne finished 21st, while your remaining three all finished in the top-10. Busch finished eighth, Sadler finished fifth and Earnhardt won the race. Your average finish is 15.4.

Madison, again, welcome to the league. For your first time, you didn’t do so badly. Edwards finished 33rd, while Kahne finished 21st. Martin didn’t have lug-nut problems today, but fell a lap down late in the race and finished 13th. Busch finished eighth and Earnhardt finished on top. Your average finish is 15.2.

Bosley and Julie, you both tie for our fourth finishing spot this week.

Julie, I’ll start with you. Edwards was your worst driver with his 33rd place finish. Bobby Labonte finished 16th, while Gordon finish 14th. Matt Kenseth finished ninth, and of course Earnhardt won the race.

Bosley, Rusty Wallace was your worst driver after he crashed in one of the two multiple-car crashes tonight. He finished 23rd. Kahne finished 21st, while Tony Stewart, also a victim of someone else’s crash, finished 19th. Busch and Ryan Newman both had top-10 finishes with an eighth place for Busch and second-place for Newman.

Your average finish is 14.6 each.

For me, Carl Edwards was my worst driver with his 33rd place finish. Gordon and Martin finished 14th and 13th respectively, while Johnson finished third and Earnhardt won. My average finish is 13 even.

UnNamed One, you almost had all of your drivers in the top-10, but Biffle spoiled that for you with his 11th place finish. Dale Jarrett finished 10th, while Kenseth finished ninth and Busch finished eighth. Your top driver is Sadler and his fifth place finish. Your average finish is 8.6.

That leaves you, Thin Man, to be this week’s CHARLIE’S ANGELS’ TOP ANGEL AWARD winner. You accomplished this by having Gordon finish 14th and Busch finishing eighth, while Sterlin Marlin and Sadler finished sixth and fifth respectively. Your top driver is Ryan Newman and his second-place finish. Your TAA winning average finish is seven even. Congratulations.

Next week’s race is the Pop Secret 500 at Fontana Raceway in California. This race is a night race on Sunday.

Charlie
