Pennsylvania 500 Results

Hello Angels,

Can you say Pocono sweep? Well, Jimmie Johnson and Chad Knaus can definitely say it after Johnson drove away with his fourth victory and second victory at Pocono this year,  He also extended his NASCAR Nextel Cup Series points lead over now second-place holder, and Johnson’s team co-owner, Jeff Gordon. Gordon finished fifth today.

Dale Earnhardt Jr., who expected to stay in the car all day today, got out after only driving 53 laps of the 200 scheduled. This was after Earnhardt’s left leg started to fall asleep and experiencing some leg cramps as well. John Andretti took over the driving duties but was black-flagged for failure to maintain a minimum speed on the track.  After a short trip to the garage, and a part replacement, Andretti returned to the track seven-laps down in 37th position. Because of several part failures on other cars, along with a couple of crashes, Andretti was able to finish the race in 25th position, still seven-laps down.  Earnhardt slipped from second in the points chase to third, now trailing Johnson by 267 points.

So, how does today’s Pennsylvania 500 affect our teams,

Well, for you Sabrina, you entered four drivers into the race, but had all five of your drivers drive in the race. How did you do this, you ask? Well it was simple. You have both Earnhardt and Andretti on your team, as well as Dave Blaney.  Here’s the hook. Blaney now drives the car that Andretti used to drive for Dale Earnhardt Inc., and since he’s still on contract, Andretti took over driving duties for Earnhardt today.  So, even though Andretti didn’t start the race he still drove to have all five of your team’s drivers in the race. That still didn’t help your point’s situation because Andretti wasn’t competing for his own points. That gives you one-less driver to count on for points, and after today’s race, you needed all five of your drivers to earn points. Your worst driver today is Tony Stewart who crashed in front of Kasey Kahne after becoming loose and hitting the wall.  He finished 35th. Blaney fought an ill-handling car all day and could only muster a 27th place finish, even though he was able to lead a lap today. Earnhardt and Andretti finished 25th, while your best driver today is the race winner, Johnson. Your four drivers’ average finish is a not so bad 17.6, but because you failed to have all five of your drivers enter today’s race, you are hereby awarded, for the second week in a row, mind you, the CHARLIE’S ANGELS’ GOLDEN CABOOSE AWARD. Let’s hope you don’t earn this award again anytime in the near future.

Jill, last week you almost took TOP ANGEL, this week, you almost take the GOLDEN CABOOSE.  Lucky for you this week, Sabrina didn’t change her drivers. That said, you did and it cost you dearly. Todd Bodine finished 38th, completing only 49 laps before something broke on his car and he was out. Than Jamie McMurray had his engine fail causing him to leave early and finish in 30th today. Kurt Busch had an outstanding car until his transmission blew up late with only 10-laps left. He went from a top-10 finish to a 26th place finish when the race was over. Your only good news today was the fact that you have both Gordon and Johnson, and their fifth and first place finishes on your team. Your average finish though is still a not-so-bad 20 even.

Bosley, you finished one spot behind Jill last week, and this week, it is reversed, with you ahead on the deal. That said, your drivers didn’t do too well either. Stewart and Busch teamed up to be your worst drivers today with their 35th and 26th place finishes. Rusty Wallace had handling problems and finished 17th, while Ryan Newman fought his ill-handling car, and a pit-road violation, to what I would call a victory, even though he finished 13th overall. Your best driver was Kahne who battled back after his collision with Stewart, and finished third. Your average finish is 18.8.

Tiffany, last week I bestowed upon you our first ever “Lucky Dog” award.  This week, I can’t award it to you, but I can say you improved. Kevin Harvick was your worst driver with a 32nd place finish after he (I believe) lost an engine. Earnhardt and Andretti finished 25th, while Casey Mears, who had his first pole of his career, finished 18th. Your top-two drivers are Jeremy Mayfield in ninth and Greg Biffle in fourth. Your average finish is 17.6.

Dylan, you didn’t change your drivers this week, and overall it didn’t hurt you too badly. Ward Burton had his transmission lock up causing a spin. He finished 31st. Earnhardt and Andretti finished 25th, while Sterlin Marlin and Newman finished 15th and 13th respectively. Your top driver today is Kahne and his third-place finish. Your average finish is 17 even.

Kris, up until 10-laps remaining your average finish was going to be a good one, even with Andretti and Earnhardt finishing 25th. But, someone forgot to tell that to Busch’s transmission forcing him to a 26th place finish. Joe Nemachek finished 16th after he lost all but third gear again at Pocono, while Elliott Sadler finished 10th. Your top driver this week is Kahne and his third-place finish. Your average finish is 16 even.

Julie, your drivers didn’t do too badly, but only one of them finished in the top-10. Your worst driver is Busch with his 26th place finish. Mears, Nemachek and Newman finished 18th, 16th and 13th respectively, while Gordon was your best finisher in fifth. Your average finish is 15.6.

Kelly, two of your team’s drivers didn’t play nicely together this week. Texas heartthrob Bobby Labonte was obviously mad after he was spun into the wall by Brian Vickers. Labonte finished 29th, while Vickers finished 14th. Blaney didn’t help your cause either by finishing 27th. Other than that, Gordon and Johnson’s fifth and first finishes rounded out your five drivers. All totaled your average finish is 15.2.

UnNamed One, Busch finished 26th, while Dale Jarrett had transmission problems also and finished 24th. Sadler had a 10th place finish, with Matt Kenseth in eighth and Biffle in fourth. Your average finish is 14.4.

Thin Man, last week you were our TOP ANGEL, but this week is not a repeat performance. Like UnNamed One, Busch is your worst driver with his 26th place finish. Nemachek, Newman and Sadler finished 16th, 13th and 10th respectively, while your top-driver today is Gordon and his fifth place finish. Your average finish is 14 even.

Mr. X, you follow suit with Busch as your worst driver, along with Nemachek and Newman and their 16th and 13th place finishes respectively. Rounding out your team is Gordon and Kahne with their top-five finishes each. Your average finish is 12.6.

Natalie, your only dark spot this week is Blaney and his 27th finish today. Sure Wallace finished 17th, but your remaining drivers, Sadler, Kahne and Johnson finished 10th, third and first respectively. Your average finish this week is 11.6.

Well, that leaves me to be this week’s TOP ANGEL AWARD winner. Like many of our Angels today, my worst driver is Blaney and his 27th place finish. Nemachek finished 16th, while Kenseth, Gordon and Johnson all had their top-10 finishes, of course with Johnson winning the race. My average finish just squeaked by Tiffany’s at 11 even.

Don’t forget to check out our team’s standings on the ESPN.RPM Stockcar Challenge Web site to see where you stack up after the Pennsylvania 500.

Next week’s race is the Brickyard 500 at Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Does anyone have any predictions on who’s kissing the bricks or drinking the milk next week?  Let me know when you send me your driver picks for the race.

Good luck Angels,

Charlie
