Hello
Angels, Bosley, Mr. X and the UnNamed One,
What
an exciting race to watch today, in comparison with last week's Daytona
500. There was a lot of action from the beginning of the race
until the end. Most of the excitement came from one driver though,
Dale Earnhardt Jr. He was responsible, or part of an incident,
that brought out five of the seven caution flags today. This
included three spins on his own. Of those three spins, he caused
six or seven drivers to spin, including Jeremy Mayfield, John Andretti
and most notably, Jeff Gordon who was running 7th at the
time. These cautions allowed the race winner, Dale Jarrett, to go
from the middle of the pack and beat Kurt Busch to the checkered
flag. Congratulations to Jarrett on his victory today, and let's
hope that Earnhardt Jr., picks up the pieces and recovers from his
dismal start to the 2003 Winston Cup season.
Ok,
so now I'm sure you want to know where you stack up in the big scheme of
things.
Well,
Jill (Jennie), unfortunately by you not having any drivers finish in the
top-10 today, you have earned our coveted, err, least wanted
"GOLDEN CABOOSE" Award. You have our Angels empathy with
you today too. Your worst driver, Todd Bodine, who is also on
other teams as well. He was an early victim to the Rock taking out
his right front side, and ending his day on lap 87 of the 393 laps run
today. He finished 42nd. Kenny Wallace was another victim to
the Rock's walls as the nose of his car was crushed in during a
spin. He finished the race, but could only muster a 38th finishing
spot. Tony Stewart had a run-in with someone (I have no idea who),
and bent in his left front quarter of his car. He was only able to
manage a 20th place. As I've already mentioned, Gordon was a
victim to Junior's antics and went as far down as 25th. He was
only able to recover a 17th place finish, one lap down. Your top
finisher today is Ricky Rudd (Go Air Force) in 11th spot. Your
average finish today is a dismal 25.6. I do believe the rest of
our Angels joins me in wishing you much better luck next week.
Bosley
(Jude), you almost matched Jill's finishes because you both share three
of the five drivers, Bodine, Wallace and Stewart. Saving you from
the GOLDEN CABOOSE is last week's sod eater, Ryan "I wish I had
some of Paul Newman's Own salad dressing to go with my grass salad"
Newman, who finished 15th. You also had Rusty "I can't win a
race lately" Wallace, finished 6th. Your average finish is
also a murky 24.2. Much better luck next week.
Tiffany
(Jen Y), This week you picked Kyle Petty to be your 5th driver.
Well, unfortunately, he lived up to that position by being your worst
driver today, finishing 35th. Not living up to his number one
position on your team is Earnhardt Jr. Let's hope for your sake,
he improves his finishing performances for the rest of the season.
Kevin Harvick had an ok race but fell victim to traffic and finished the
race two laps down in 26th. Last week's Daytona 500 winner didn't
have that much of an afternoon today and could only muster a 21st place
finish, one lap down. One thing that did go right for you today is
having new rookie "Phnom" Jamie "I love playing
jokes" McMurray, who finished 6th. Your average finish today
is a not much better than Bosley's murky one, with 24 even. I'll
wish you much better luck next week too.
Kris
(Peggy), causing you much pain today is Bodine and Earnhardt Jr. Add to
that mix is the 26th place finisher of Harvick. The only drivers
helping you today is Ward Burton's 14th place finish and of course, Kurt
"I"m on one heck of a hot streak" Busch, finishing
2nd. Unfortunately, your 23.4 average finish doesn't reflect
Busch's hot streak. Better luck next week.
Well,
here I am, only one week after my domination in the Daytona 500 and all
I can say is, "what happened." I I took one look at my roster
and found my reasons. Like so many of you today, I have Bodine and
his 42nd place finish on my team. He along with Robby "the
other" Gordon (finishing 29th) hurt me considerably. Add to them,
the spin by Jeff, "the Original" Gordon and that is
where my middle of the pack run comes from. I also have Burton's
14th place finish helping me. My best driver this week is last
year's rookie Phnom, Jimmie Johnson, who finished 7th. My average
finish is also a disappointing 22 even. Someone please wish my
better luck next week.
Sabrina
(Susan), unfortunately for you, you didn't do much better than I
did. Your worst driver, John Andretti, was taken out early by
Earnhardt Jr.'s antics. He finished 39th. Robby Gordon
didn't help you much either with his 29th place finish. I
chronicled Tony Stewart's problems, albeit, not that well, and his 20th
place finish. Putting you in our 5th place this week though
was Johnson's 7th, and McMurray's 5th. Your average finish
is an even 20 this week. Better luck next week.
Julie
(Jen T), I think this was the type of average finish you were hoping for
in last week's Daytona 500. Your worst driver, like Tiffany, didn't live
up to his first place billet on your team, especially with his 33rd
place finish. Harvick didn't help you much either of course,
finishing 26th. Surprising me though was Jimmy Spenser and his 19th
place finish. (I didn't know he found a car to drive for this
year). Like Sabrina, helping you the most today is having Johnson
and McMurray on your team. They helped you to an average finish of
18 even. I think that I'll still wish you even better luck next week.
Mr.
X (Dave), Kenny Wallace's spin and crash hurt you considerably this
week. This is because your remaining 4 drivers finished 26th or
better. In that 26th spot was Harvick. Johnny Benson, who
was an early favorite to win today, finished 13th. The FOX-Sports
announcers were jokingly calling Rockingham Raceway, "Markingham."
This is because Mark Martin usually dominates the Rock. Well, he
didn't dominate today, but had a very good racecar, none-the-less.
He finished 6th. Your top driver today is Busch and his 2nd place
finish. Your average finish is 17 even. Good job.
Kelly
(Sarah), you recovered nicely this week, after that disastrous week in
Daytona. You could've been a contender for the top-spot today had
it not been for Andretti's 39th place finish. He was your sole
blemish today. Bobby Labonte and Burton's 16 and 14 place finishes
respectively definitely helped you. But Ricky Craven's 4th place
and Kurt Busch's 2nd place rocketed you to our runner up position
today. Your average finish is an even 15. Nice job.
Well,
that leaves the UnNamed One (Ray) as our "Top-Angel Award"
Winner today. Your worst driver is rookie Greg Biffle, who had
himself a decent day finishing 23rd. Also helping you is having Rudd and
his Air Force sponsored car finish 11th. I guess what really put
you over the top today was having three drivers finish in the
TOP-5. In that 5th place is McMurray, with Matt Kenseth in 3rd,
and of course, Dale Jarrett finish as the race winner.
Congratulations on your first 2003 TOP ANGEL AWARDs, with an average
finish of 8.6.
Our
combined average finish is 17.96.
Look
below to see where we stack up after the Daytona 500. I'll post
the new scores tomorrow after the RPM.ESPN STOCKCAR CHALLENGE Web site
is updated.
Next
week's race is the UAW-DaimlerChrysler 400 at Las Vegas Motor
Speedway. Update your drivers if you choose to, by 11:59 p.m. on
Thursday, Feb. 27.
Good
luck Angels,
Charlie
