Sirius at the Glen Results

Hello Angels, Bosley, Mr. X and the UnNamed One,

I have a confession to make to you today.  I didn’t get to see the race.  I’m currently on a secret mission with Kris, but I can tell you that the area we are in is a very busy place.  I can see a building that looks like a castle, and there are tiny rodents running around with large black round ears.  Everybody here sings a song with lyrics repeatedly saying, “It’s a small world after all.”

Anyway, enough about our secret mission, so let’s get on to the reason for my weekly diatribes, this week’s NASCAR Winston Cup race – The Syrius at the Glen road-course race at Watkins Glen Raceway in New York.

Although I didn’t get to see it, I got to read about the first-lap spin and then subsequent last lap spin for the race pole-sitter, Jeff Gordon.  Greg Biffle caused Gordon’s first-lap spin when he got into the first corner too hot with his teammate, Mark Martin.  Martin and Biffle never touched, but their early racing antics sent Biffle into the back of Gordon which caused the spin and dropped Gordon all the way from first to (I believe) last place.  Gordon fought all the way back to 3rd place where he ran out of gas on the last corner and was spun out by Kevin Harvick who didn’t slow up enough to make a clean pass.  Gordon finished as the last car on the lead lap 30 positions behind where he should’ve finished, had he not run out of gas.

The other Gordon, Robby that is, caught a break and a win when he saw a spin and immediately pitted under green.  He was able to stay out during the subsequent caution for the crash, and never looked back to win today’s race.  Congratulations to Robby Gordon this time, who swept the road-course races this year.  At least this time his win wasn’t at the expense of his teammate Kevin Harvick, who Robby passed at Infineon Raceway in Sonoma on the way to a yellow flag.  If you remember that started the controversy about the “gentlemen’s agreement” that you don’t race back to the caution.  If you remember, NASCAR doesn’t enforce that rule, because it’s not a rule.  Anyway, today Robby won it fair and square.

Speaking of square, it’s that time to fit all the squares with answers on this weeks Charlie’s Angels’ NASCAR Fantasy League team results.

Each week I’m the bearer of bad news to one or more of our teammates when I announce the recipient of our GOLDEN CABOOSE AWARD.  This week is no different.

Kris, you have the dubious honor of going from our best finisher last week to this week’s GCA recipient.  This is because three of your drivers finished 24th or worse.  Your worst driver this week is Jeff Gordon and his 33rd place finish.  You also have Greg Biffle who finished 31st and Jimmy Spenser in that 24th finishing spot. Helping you though was having Tony Stewart and Dale Earnhardt Junior on your team.  They finished 11th and 3rd respectively.  But, your average finish is still a disappointing 20.4.  Much better luck next week.

Bosley, unfortunately for you, you didn’t do much better than Kris this week.  Rusty Wallace was your nemesis with his 37th place finish.  Jamie McMurray didn’t help you much with his 23rd-place finish, but your top three drivers, Kurt Busch (13th), Mikey Waltrip (12th) and Stewart (11th) propelled you just in front of Kris with an average finish of 19.2.  Like Kris, much better luck next week.

Unfortunately for me Bosley, I didn’t do much better than you.  My two worst drivers are usually very good on road-courses.  Boris Said had the pole and finished 7th in Sonoma.  Today he started 8th or 9th, but crashed early and finished 37th.  Jeff Gordon started on the pole, but running out of gas and finishing 33rd really hurt him and me.  Stewart did help with his 11th, but really helping me was Matt Kenseth’s 8th and Jimmie Johnson’s 4th place finishes.  My average finish though was only an even 19.  Someone please wish me much better luck…J

Kelly, like all of us on the bottom half of the grid today, we had drivers finish fairly low in the finishing order…you are no exception. Rusty Wallace’s 37th place finish really hurt you because all of your other drivers didn’t finish so badly.  Terry Labonte finished 18th, while his brother Bobby finished 14th.  Your top-two drivers are Stewart and Mark Martin, who finished 11th and 10th respectively.  Your average finish when Robby Gordon was kissing Miss Winston in winner’s circle is an even 18.  Better luck next week.

UnNamed One, Greg Biffle was your worst driver with his 31st place finish.  He really hurt you because your other drivers finished 15th or better.  In that 15th finishing spot is Elliott Sadler, followed by Busch in 12th, Kenseth in 8th and Jarrett in 7th.  Your average finish is a nice 14.6.  Better luck next week.

Jill, your worst driver today is Jeff Gordon and his 33rd place finish.  Other than his on-road (or shall I say off-road antics) your drivers did very well.  Stewart helped you with his 11th place finish, while Ryan Newman and Dale Jarrett really helped with their top-10 finishes of 9th and 7th respectively.  Your top driver today is Johnson and his 4th place finish.  Nice job on your 12.8 average finish.

Mr. X, like the UnNamed One your worst driver is Biffle and his 31st place finish.  He hurt you considerably and kept you from winning the TOP ANGEL AWARD this week.  Your other drivers did everything they could to give you the TAA but it was not meant to be this week for you.  Speaking of your other drivers they are Stewart and his 11th place finish; Kenseth in 8th; Jarrett in 7th; and Johnson rounding out your top finishers in 4th.  Your average finish is a very nice, 12.2

Tiffany, Biffle’s finish didn’t hurt you as badly as they did Mr. X because you are the TOP ANGEL AWARD winner this week.  Your other drivers did just enough to put you over the top for the TAA this week.  Joe Nemachek finished 14th, while you had Harvick finish 5th; Johnson finish 4th and Earnhardt Jr., finish 3rd.  Your average finish was the closest average finish without a tie this season at 12 even.  Congratulations on your Top Angel Award this week.

Our team’s combined average finish is 12.82.  Nice job Angels!!  J

Next week’s race is the Michigan 400 at Michigan Motor Speedway.  Make changes to your team’s line-up by 11:59 pm on Thursday.

Good luck Angels,

Charlie
