Hello
Angels, Bosley, Mr. X and the UnNamed One
Well,
another week and another win for Ryan Newman who basically dominated
the Pennsylvania 500. With his 4th win this
year, Newman became the winningist (is that a word?) driver so far of
the 2003 Winston Cup season. So, congratulations to him and his
team. Congratulations also to Ricky Rudd on his 700th straight
race-start. It wasn't meant to be his day though because his
engine broke early in the race.
It
wasn't a good day either for the Gibbs racing teams...both Tony
Stewart and Bobby Labonte broke their engines and took a major point
hit in the process. Jeff Gordon also took a points hit when he
was spun out mid-way through the race during a lap after a restart.
In
fact, similar to last week's points for our teams, none of us really
did that well as far as top-10 finishes.
Unfortunately
for your Kelly, you're our Golden Caboose recipient this week, because
four of your drivers didn't finish better than 30th. I'll start
with Mark Martin who was spun out early in the race and finished 41st.
Ricky Craven had problems too and finished 40th. I mentioned
Stewart's and Labonte's engine problems already...they finished 35th
and 30th respectively. Your top driver for the day was a
surprised Terry Labonte, who is doing much better this season than was
to be expected, in 5th place. Your average finish is an
extremely disappointing 30.2. I think all of us Angels wish you
much better luck next week at the Brickyard.
Like
you Kelly, my drivers had their problems too. But, I only have
myself to blame. I traded Terry Labonte for Tony Stewart and
look where that got me.... :) Gordon's crash didn't help my
cause either because he finished 36th. Mike Wallace, who was
running in the back of the pack for most of the day, surprised me with
a 23rd place finish. Pit strategy kept both Jimmie Johnson and
Matt Kenseth out of the top-10 finishing spots with them finishing
15th and 13th respectively. When all was said and done, my
team's average finish is 24 even.
Mr.
X, Stewart was your nemesis today, but the rest of your drivers didn't
help you that much either. Greg Biffle had a decent day going
but faded late in the race and finished 27th. Dale Jarrett was
acting like he was driving the big-brown truck by bumping and banging
his way to a 21st finishing spot, while Johnson and Kenseth finished
15th and 13th. Your average finish is also a disappointing 22.2.
Much better luck next week.
Jill,
your streak of being our weekly TOP ANGEL AWARD WINNER came ended
at two yesterday with Gordon's crash and Stewart's blown engine.
Jarrett didn't necessarily hurt you that bad with his 21st place
finish because you also had Johnson's 15th place finish and Newman's
win helping you out. Your average finish though is, I'm sure to
you, a disappointing 21.6. Better luck next week.
Kris,
fortunately for you, you're not our Golden Caboose recipient this
week, unfortunately for you, you have Gordon on your team. He
was the sole reason you are not our TAA recipient this week.
Jimmy Spencer had a good run going, but like Biffle, faded late in the
race and finished 22nd. Ward Burton was ineffective and finished
19th, while Bill Elliott finished 17th. Your top driver is Dale
Earnhardt Junior, who with his 3rd place finish, took over the second
spot in the Winston Cup Points chase, just 214 points behind leader
Matt Kenseth. Your average finish yesterday is 19.4.
Better luck next week.
Bosley,
the reason you're not our TAA this week is because you have Rudd and
Stewart, and their subsequent engine problems on your team.
Other than that, you're remaining drivers did quite well. Rusty
Wallace had a strong car most of the day and ended in 11th.
Mikey Waltrip led a few laps and finished 4th, and Kurt Busch
challenged Newman for the win, falling short in the end and
finishing 2nd. Your average finish is 18.2.
Tiffany,
your worst driver today is Jamie McMurray, whom I believe had clutch
or transmission problems. He finished 28th. You also have
Johnson and his 15th place finish, Kevin Harvick and his 12th place
finish, and Earnhardt with his 3rd place finish. Your average
finish is 15.8. Not bad considering everyone else's average
finish this week.
UnNamed
One, by process of elimination, you are our TOP ANGEL AWARD winner
this week. You now have a two-week winning streak going
yourself. Your worst driver yesterday is Biffle and his 27th
place finish. Jarrett didn't hurt you too badly with his
21st place finish, while his teammate, Elliott Sadler, finished 14th.
Helping you even more than Sadler is Kenseth and his 13th
place finish and Busch's 2nd place finish. Congratulations on
your TAA average finish of 15.4, and second consecutive TAA.
Our
combined teams average finish is
16.72. Let's hope we all do better next week.
Here's
how we stack up against each other on the ESPN Web site after the
Pennsylvania 500 yesterday. I don't think anyone is going to
catch Jill for the segment championship, but you never know.
