Hello
Angels, Bosley, Mr. X and the UnNamed One.
Let
me start off by talking about last week’s commentary in regards to Mr.
X and his finishing order.
I
thought I mentioned it last week, but I had problems accessing Mr. X’s
driver list from the ESPN Web site.
I used his drivers from the previous week, hoping that he
didn’t change them. I was unable to get online again to check the actual results
on Monday and didn’t catch the mistake that I made in not naming Mr. X
last week’s Charlie’s Angels’ Fantasy League Golden Caboose
recipient for the Syrius at the Glen road course race.
This is because one of his drivers, Scott Maxwell…who is one of
the hired guns to drive road course races…failed to qualify.
Unfortunately for you Mr. X that pretty much guaranteed you the
GCA for last weeks’ race.
As
for this week’s GFS Marketplace 400, it wasn’t any better for those
behind Matt Kenseth in the Winston Cup points chase.
Dale Earnhardt Jr., had a horrible car and dropped to the rear of
the pack once the green-flag was flown.
He then tangled with Rusty Wallace during a caution on the way
into the pits. Wallace was
faking entry into the pits and cut off Earnhardt when Wallace went to
get back on the track before the entrance to pit road.
Earnhardt’s problems continued after that when he cut a tire
and went several laps down because of repairs to the car.
After he returned, he cut another tire and eventually finished
32nd.
Jeff
Gordon’s racing woes continued this week when his car failed to go
during the pace laps to today’s race.
His problem was the mandatory kill switch on the steering wheel.
It cut power to his engine twice…once before the race started,
and than again about 25-laps into the race.
He was never able to recover and eventually finished 30th.
Jimmie
Johnson was having an outstanding day until he ran out of gas with three
laps to go. He dropped from
third place to 27th when the race was over.
Kurt
Busch paid the ultimate price though…he was leading the race with two
laps left when he ran out of gas. He
eventually finished 18th. Another
price he apparently paid was a broken nose after the race.
It looks like the feud between Busch and Jimmy Spencer has heated
up again. This time Busch
cut Spencer off during the race for position and almost caused Spenser
to wreck. He didn’t wreck, but Spenser wasn’t too happy about the
almost wreck. He let Busch
know his displeasure in the post-race inspection when he bumped
Busch’s car. After the
inspection Busch’s car “apparently” ran out of gas again directly
in front of Spenser’s hauler blocking the entryway.
Spenser then ran into the back of Busch’s car and got out and
ran over to Busch’s cockpit and punched him in the nose.
We’ll see where this one leads to next week.
Capitalizing
on Busch’s gasoline consumption problems is Ryan Newman who continues
on his good-luck streak for his fifth Winston Cup race win this season.
Congratulations to Newman on being the winningest driver in the
series this year.
Back
to the fireworks of the day, there were several cars banged up today and
a couple of them caught fire. The
first of the crashes happened when when Todd Bodine was pushed up the
racetrack and collided with Kenny Wallace.
Bodine’s car was t-boned and lodged on top of Wallace’s hood
after he want airborne backwards. Wallace’s
car caught fire as the two cars careened down the rear straightaway.
Both drivers had their window nets down and were out of their
cars as quickly as possible when the cars came to a rest. Wallace’s brother Rusty continued with his problems even
after his tangle with Earnhardt on the entry-way to pit road. His car
caught fire after his engine blew-up late in the race.
He was able to get the car stopped and extricate himself from the
car escaping injury, but it was still a pretty spectacular blaze similar
to what Ryan Newman and Bobby Labonte experienced a few weeks ago.
He finished in 38th place.
Shortly after Bodine’s and Kenny Wallace’s crash, Ricky
Craven hit the wall and clipped Larry Foyt’s car as he tried to pass
on the outside. Foyt’s
car took off like a rocketship into the wall crippling the target car.
Both drivers were ok after that crash, but out of the race
none-the-less.
These
crashes did affect our standings. Here’s
how we lined up.
Bosley,
your day went bad early when Jamie McMurray had a tire go down and
crashed into the wall on lap 15. He
eventually reentered the race, but could only muster a 36th place
finish. He was not your
worst driver though; Rusty Wallace was running 10th when his engine let
go…he finished 38th. Busch
running out of gasoline really hurt you too because he went from first
to 18th in less than a lap. Michael
Waltrip’s run paid-off today as he cruised to a 7th place finish and
Tony Stewart was your top-driver today finishing 3rd.
Your average finish is a disappointing and a Golden Caboose Award
winning 20.4. I think we
all wish you much better luck next week.
Tiffany,
your worst driver today is Earnhardt and his 32nd place finish.
Jimmie Johnson really hurt you today too though.
He was running third when he ran out of gas and finished 27th.
Joe Nemachek had a decent day with a 20th place finish.
Sterling Marlin was just in front of him in 19th.
Your top driver today is Kevin Harvick and his 2nd place finish.
Your average finish is also a disappointing 20 even.
Better luck next week.
Kris,
last week you were the GCA, and this week you’re close enough to see
it. Earnhardt’s 32nd place and Gordon’s problems and 30th
place finishes were the culprits to your low average finish this week.
Jimmy Spenser didn’t help you all that much either with his
26th-place finish. However,
Greg Biffle and Tony Stewart definitely helped you this week with their
4th and 3rd place finishes respectively. Your average finish is 19 even. Much better luck next week.
My
woes also continue this week following Gordon’s problems.
Johnson’s lack of gas mileage definitely hurt me too.
He finished 27th. Jeff Green had a decent day with his 21st place finish.
Helping me the most is Kenseth’s 9th and Biffle’s 4th.
My average finish is 18 even.
Jill,
like Matt Kenseth has pretty much locked up the WC Championship already,
you have pretty much locked up this segment’s top spot in our fantasy
league championships. This
week though, you almost had a blunder with Gordon and Johnson finishing
30th and 27th after their problems on the track.
Dale Jarrett led the race for a lap or two today but faded late
in the race and could only manage a 23rd place finish.
Helping you the most was Stewart in third and having Newman win
the race. Your average finish is a-not-so-bad 16.8.
Better luck next week.
Kelly,
your nemesis this week is your Texas heartthrob, Bobby Labonte.
His engine problems continue to haunt his team and today was no
exception. He managed to
keep his car off the wall after his engine let go, causing a caution and
a 37th place finish. Mark
Martin had his worst start in 53 races today, a provisional 36th place
start. He rebounded with a 17th place finish. Terry Labonte had another solid run with a 13th place finish.
Jeff Burton had a decent run finishing 11th.
Your top finisher is Stewart and his 3rd place finish.
Your average finish is 16.2.
Better luck next week.
UnNamed
One, while you’re at the bottom of the standings for our league,
you’re trying to make a comeback.
Last week you did quite well, and you follow it up with this
week’s solid run. Your worst driver is Jarrett and his 23rd place finish.
Busch almost worked out for you, but instead finished 18th.
Elliott Sadler had a great run today with his 12th place finish.
Your top drivers are Kenseth and his 9th, along with Biffle and
his 4th place finish. Your
average finish is a nice 13.2. Nice
job.
Mr.
X, you went from worst to first with this week’s race.
Nice job on your TOP ANGEL AWARD.
Your worst driver is also Jarrett and his 23rd place finish. Ward Burton helped you with his 14th place finish, while you
also had Kenseth, Robby Gordon and Stewart finish 9th, 6th and 3rd
respectively. Congratulations
on your TAA average finish of 11 even.
Here
are the results following last week’s Sirius at the Glen road course
race. As I’ve alluded to
earlier, I don’t think anyone can catch Jill for this segment with her
almost 500 point lead. I
believe the race is from 2nd to 7th place where only 78 points separate
six of us. UnNamed One
while you’re still in last place (of those of us participating), this
week’s results will most likely put you in the mix also.
Next
week’s race is the Sharpie 500 night race at Bristol Motor speedway on
Saturday, Aug. 23. Remember
to change your drivers before Wednesday at 11:59 p.m. Pacific Time.
Good
luck Angels,
Charlie
