Hello
Angels, Bosley, Mr. X and the UnNamed One,
I’m
going to start off this week’s commentary introducing a new award for
our Angels to receive. It’s
not a weekly award, but will be awarded by me when someone in our
fantasy league does something so outlandish that he or she is deserving
of the Charlie’s Angels Bonehead Award.
I’ll
tell you who the first recipient is later on.
There
is a lot to talk about from yesterday’s race.
One is that Jeff Gordon had a decent race and top-10 finish. Another is Matt Kenseth dodged another bullet…a spin or
crash that is. Maybe
another thing to talk about is the newest NASCAR feud between Kevin
Harvick and Ricky Rudd (Go Air Force).
But, I think I’ll concentrate on now six-time race winner for
2003, Ryan Newman.
In
only his second year on NASCAR’s premiere circuit Newman is leading
the series in wins for the year, and also has the lead for Bud Pole
qualifying this year, I believe. It’s
too bad that Newman had so many problems earlier in the year.
He’s currently 6th in points, but is on a steady rise and only
about 200 points out of 2nd spot. I
don’t think anyone can catch Kenseth, but I believe if Newman
continues on his winning ways, he’s going to be our second place
driver for the final Winston Cup season.
Congratulations
to Newman on his 6th win this season.
Speaking
of congratulations, it’s time to award the Charlie’s Angels’
Bonehead Award. The first
recipient is also this week’s recipient of the Golden Caboose Award.
This is because this Angel picked a driver for the Chevy Rock and Roll
400 race that was never even entered in the competition.
CAN YOU SAY BONEHEAD…
Come on Angels, I know you want to say it with me…especially
when I’m that BONEHEAD. That’s
right Angels, your fearless (huh?) leader, Charlie is this week’s GAA
recipient and first time winner of the Charlie’s Angels Bonehead
Award. So, I’m not sure
if congratulations or condolences are in order…but I’ll take what
ever you feel in your heart to express to me.
By the way, the driver who didn’t even enter the race is last
week’s 15th place finisher, Kevin LaPage, who was replaced this week
by Jason Lefler. I’m not
sure what the reason for the replacement was, but it definitely affected
my outcome. Other than
that, my drivers this week did quite well.
Greg Biffle did have some problems with the wall or other cars,
but managed a 20th place finish. Jimmie
Johnson had an 11th, while his teammate Jeff Gordon had his best finish
in three or four races with a 10th place finish.
My top finisher this week is Kenseth who overcame two crashes to
finish 7th. Someone wish me much better luck next week.
Kris,
I saved your butt from the GCA…but, unfortunately with four drivers, I
still had more points than you did with five drivers.
Michael Waltrip is your worst driver again this week, after he
had something break underneath his car.
He fell 12 laps down before getting the problem fixed and
finished 32nd overall. Kurt
Busch was involved in an accident and finished 24th, while Mike Skinner,
who wrecked his primary car before qualifying, won the pole with his
back up car. However, in
practice he crashed the pole-winning car and had to get a third car for
the race shipped in, which his team did.
In the second backup car…third for the weekend, Skinner started
dead last and finished 18th. Dale Earnhardt Junior had his problems and finished 17th.
Your best driver this week is Gordon and his 10th place finish.
Your average finish is 20.2.
Better luck next week.
Jill,
last year, Dave Blaney was making a name for himself in the Winston Cup
Series. Unfortunately
he’s had his problems this year, and that didn’t change for last
night’s race. He finished 33rd overall.
Tony Steward had a wreck and finished 27th. Dale Jarrett was involved in multiple crashes and finished
21st. Gordon did well for
you with his 10th place finish, but your best driver this week is race
winner, Ryan Newman. Your
average finish is 18.4. Better
luck next week.
Bosley,
like Kris, your worst driver is Waltrip and his 32nd place finish. Both Ken Schrader and Kurt Busch didn’t help you with their
25th and 24th place finishes respectively.
Bobby Labonte however is continuing his climb in the Winston Cup
points with his 6th place finish, but, having Newman and his 6th win on
your team definitely helped your cause.
Your average finish is 17.6.
Better luck next week.
Kelly,
Ricky Craven has been having a good season with his Tide car, but last
night’s race wasn’t so good. He
could only manage a 30th place finish.
Busch didn’t help you with his crash and 24th place finish.
Definitely helping you is Mark Martin, who recovered from an
early crash, who finished 13. Your
two best drivers are the Labontes, Terry and Bobby, who finished 7th and
6th respectively. Nice job
on your average finish of 16 even.
Better luck next week.
Tiffany,
you did well this weekend considering that none of your drivers broke
the top-10. However, none
of your drivers finished higher than 19…in that spot is Jamie
McMurray, who overcame an earlier crash.
Earnhardt finished 17th, while Harvick finish 16th, last car on
the lead lap. John Andretti
and his new ride did well by finishing 14th overall.
Your best driver is Johnson and his 11th place finish.
Your average finish is a nice 15.4.
Still, better luck next week.
Mr.
X and the UnNamed One, unless I got one of your teammates wrong, you
both tie for this weeks’ TOP ANGEL AWARD.
So, congratulations on both of your TAA this week.
UnNamed
One, I’ll start with you just because I can.
Your worst driver this week is Busch and his 24th place finish. Jarrett and Biffle obviously didn’t hurt you with their
21st and 20th place finishes. Your
best drivers are Kenseth and his 7th place finish, along with Rudd and
his 3rd place finish.
Mr.
X, your worst drivers are also Jarrett and Biffle with their 21st and
20th place finishes. McMurray
had his problems and finished 19th.
Helping you though was definitely having Terry Labonte and
Kenseth on your team. They
finished 8th and 7th overall this week.
Your
TOP ANGEL AWARD winning average finish is 15 even.
Congratulations Mr. X and the UnNamed One.
Here's
where we stack up after the Chevy Rock & Roll 400
Next
week’s race is the Sylvania 300 in Louden, New Hampshire.
Don’t forget to update your drivers by Thursday, Sept. 11 at
11:59 p.m. Pacific time.
Good
luck next week Angels,
Charlie
